Project Palianytsia is a horror mystery game in the works at Frogwares

Frogwares is currently working on a new horror game with the working title Project Palianytsia.

While the first reveal should come within a few months, the team decided to show off some concept art ahead of time to pique your interest.

According to Frogwares, the war in Ukraine has forced them to sit out their next open-world game and switch the team to something different and leaner. This is where the Palianytsia project comes into play.

The horror mystery game aims to be something that fans of The Sinking City and Sherlock Holmes should enjoy. While it wasn’t the project Frogwares originally planned next, the war that was taking place meant it had to reevaluate everything.

“As an independent studio, we always have to balance our resources and workflow to deliver our games,” said Frogwares. “But the war has imposed significant hurdles on us and our established process. The constant communication and iteration between teams is harder to maintain, so we need a project where people can have more autonomy.

“Roles and responsibilities have had to shift to fill the voids left by those who signed up to fight or provide humanitarian assistance. And the threat that something might happen somewhere or someone tomorrow that would force us to adjust drastically yet again means we need to be more flexible, so against that backdrop we had to make a decision.

“Are we running a project at scale and risking disruption, do we have less room for R&D and innovation, less access to your highly skilled workforce, and less pre-production and development of specific tools? Or maybe we can do this in a smarter way? , and create a project with a simpler flow and narrower scope – but still ambitious, full of quality, and with great storytelling and mysteries behind it. This allows us not only to develop a new game, but also to do so while supporting those who are struggling.

Again, there will be a reveal soon, and the team is looking at other ways to bring the game directly to players.
