Sony has revealed the specs for its upcoming PS VR2 headset, but there’s still no sign of the device itself.
First we look at the controller this early year but now we’re going down to the severity.
PS VR2 release date
Sony confirms it is work on PS VR2 in February last year and made it clear that the device would not launch in 2021.
Release date not shared in blog post or during the company’s CES 2022 showcase.
ONE Bloomberg’s report from last year cited sources claiming that we will see the device launch during this year’s holiday season.
Both PS5 and Xbox Series X are due out in November, so it’s likely that PS VR2 will arrive in the same window.
Hardware Analyst Brad Lynch Also bolstered this rumored date with the news that PS VR 2 will be in mass production soon.
So if this is correct and we don’t see any delay, we can expect to add PS VR 2 to our Christmas list in 11 months.
PS VR2 price
Sony has yet to announce pricing for the PS VR2, but we can speculate based on previous hardware releases.
PS VR launched in 2016 for £349 / $399 but you can find bundles for $349.99 in the US and £259.99 in the UK.
It is likely that the new PS VR2 headset will be priced similarly around £349 / $399.
That doesn’t come cheap, and despite some hardware upgrades, Sony will still struggle to get customers to want to shell out more than that.
On top of that, there’s the price of the PS5 console you need to play PS VR 2.
And then there’s the standalone Oculus Quest 2 that doesn’t need any additional hardware and starts at a much more wallet-friendly £299 / $299 price tag.
So Sony will need to keep prices within a reasonable range.
Given the competition’s pricing and factoring the cost of a separate console into the customer’s setup, matching the PS VR’s original price seems to be the best option.
PS VR2 . Specifications and Features
Now to the hot stuff – PS VR2 specs! Sony has revealed hardware details at CES 2022, but we have yet to see the headset itself.
In short, PS VR2 will look, feel and perform better than PS VR.
The 4K OLED panels offer a resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and a frame rate of 90/120Hz.
There’s a 110-degree field of view, and thanks to eye tracking, simply looking in one direction acts as an additional input to the device, as well as adding to the immersion.
There’s also headset-based controller tracking, thanks to the built-in PS VR2 camera.
The headset can track both you and the PS VR2 Sense controller, and translate your movements and the direction you’re looking at the game, without the need for an external camera.
Another way Sony is improving the VR experience is with the PS5’s Tempest 3D Sound, which combines eye tracking, headset feedback, and the PS VR2 Sense controller to deliver “a sense of immersion.” very profound”.
A motor built into the headset vibrates to provide “intelligent tactile factor” in a similar way to DualSense.
For example, Sony says you’ll be able to “feel your character’s increased pulse during tense moments” or in-game objects rushing past your head.
Even the thrust of a car when you accelerate will feel more real thanks to the feedback of the headset.
PS VR2 will come with a single cable so you can simply plug and play without the complicated setup process.

PS VR 2 Sense Controller
The PS VR2 Sense controller was fully revealed last year and has a unique ‘sphere’ shape.
Ergonomically designed and well-balanced, Sony says it will comfortably fit a wide range of hand sizes.
With an adaptive trigger, also found on the PS5’s DualSense controller, and haptic feedback, PS VR2 Sense is equipped to take your immersion to the next level.
Finger touch detection can register your fingers without having to press on areas where your fingers and thumb are resting, allowing for more natural gestures.
The controller is tracked by the headset and also sports analog sticks, the ‘clamp’ button (L1 R1/) and the trigger (L2/R2).
The triangle and square buttons are on the left controller while the cross and circle are on the right.

But some exclusive features of PS VR2 have been revealed, the biggest of which will be announced at CES 2022.
Horizon Call of the Mountain is being built from the ground up exclusively for PS VR2.
Horizon Forbidden West was made at Guerilla Games, but the upcoming VR adventure will immerse you in Aloy’s world like never before.
