SONY is all set to beat Microsoft for a punch in the metaverse, but it needs to revive a long-dead PlayStation feature.
Sony has found itself on the back foot with the news that Microsoft is buy Activision – the publisher behind Call of Duty.
Combined with the 2020 acquisition of Bethesda, Xbox will be home to a huge library of The game can be blocked from PlayStation console owners.
While Sony can resist by appealing to the Federal Trade Commission and the EU Competition Commission, it will still struggle to keep up.

The Activision deal is Microsoft’s push to get into the supermarket, but Sony has the perfect combination of hardware and software to beat it.
The first is the hardware; Microsoft retreated from the VR/AR race for a while before scrapping the Kinect.
Sony has doubled in the meantime and is about to roll out PS VR2 Early.

While it’s not the only app or game that fits into that category and prefigures the concept as we know it now, it could be revived alongside the PS VR2.

Of course, now that game developers and publishers are all jumping into the NFT wars, that’s probably not going to happen.
But the company has the tools to fight Microsoft in a position it has yet to forge.
