PS5 Pro release date, news and rumors – what we know so far

Is Sony secretly building a PS5 Pro? It’s impossible to say for sure – but it’s certainly possible.
We’ve rounded up some of the hottest PS5 Pro news and rumors, including an idea of when the PlayStation 5 Pro release date might be.
What is the PS5 Pro?
The PS5 Pro is new PlayStation Console reportedly in development.
Sony hasn’t officially confirmed such a console yet, but it’s looking increasingly likely that one will be launched at some point.
Importantly, Sony already pulled this trick with the PS4.

The PlayStation 4 was released in February 2013, followed by the PS4 Pro in September 2016.
This model had significantly more powerful processing capabilities and finally allowed PlayStation games be played 4K resolution.
A PS5 Pro could give gamers a similar graphics boost – if they exist.
And it would also give Sony a better chance to compete with newer gaming PCs.
PS5 Pro Release Date – When is the PS5 Pro coming out?
There is no guarantee that Sony will produce a PS5 Pro.
So it’s impossible to say for sure when one will come out.
But we can make a guess based on Sony’s past history.
There was a 3.5 year gap between the PS4 and the PS4 Pro.
For comparison, the PS5 came out on November 12, 2020.
So we expect a PS5 Pro to launch somewhere between November 2023 and November 2024.
The big challenge for Sony this time is that the tech world is experiencing a major chip shortage.
That’s one of the reasons it was so difficult Get your hands on a PS5 since launch.
And it could mean Sony could struggle to mass-produce another console for years to come.
This could lead to a late 2024 launch instead.
It’s likely – but not guaranteed – that Sony will launch a console sometime in the run up to Christmas.
This would allow it to attract holiday shoppers looking to snag a console for the festive season.
PS5 Pro news and rumors – specs and features
Without an official announcement from Sony, we are left with only rumours, leaks and speculation.
We know that Sony has produced a “Pro” console before – as has its rival Xbox.
So it seems likely that it will happen again for the PS5.
Part of the problem is that Sony’s PS5 is already very powerful.
It can handle 4K gaming with stunning graphics – including ray tracing for shadows and lights.
The console also supports high refresh rates of 120 Hz.
Where does Sony go from there?
A claimed feature of the PS5 is that it could support 8K gaming, although that hasn’t come out yet.
In a few years, 8K TV should be more common – and a PS5 Pro could be used there.
Similarly, better processing power would allow more realistic virtual reality titles to run on the PS5.
More storage is a very easy upgrade for the PS5 Pro – maybe 1TB or even 2TB.
That would allow gamers to squeeze more titles onto their consoles.
Ultimately, games will get more demanding in the years to come – and the PS5 Pro would help gamers keep up with those changes.
As such, a PS5 Pro can be a great option for gamers who want to better “future-proof” their game, just like PC owners upgrade their PCs.
PS5 Pro price – how much will PS5 Pro cost?
When the PS4 Pro launched, it cost $399/£349.
That matched the original introductory price of the PS4.
So Sony could pull a similar trick this time, dropping the cost of the PS5 and using the old introductory price for the PS5 Pro.

By that yardstick, gamers would pay $499 / £449 for a PS5 Pro.
However, global chip shortages could mean Sony is forced to charge even more for a PS5 Pro console.
