Pumpkin shocked when Mama June wants her to adopt Alana

Mama June: Road to Redemption Season 6 aired in its final episode this week and featured an intense confrontation between Mama June Shannon and her daughter, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon.

On Friday’s episode, things seemed to be going well for the first half as Mama June had already signed her youngest daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson’s custody papers when controversial matriarch Pumpkin and Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon were in Las Vegas .

But things took a different turn midway through the episode when Pumpkin was told that she needed Mama June to re-sign the papers for technical reasons. The 22-year-old reality star hired a new attorney and plotted to mug Mama June during the signing by addressing child support.

When Mama June and Pumpkin arrived at the law firm, the former discovered that the latter was filing for $2,000 a month in child support. This caught the Shannon matriarch off guard and she refused to sign the papers.

“To be honest, I can’t afford that. … There’s no way I can pay $2,000. If this goes to court, then I will [it]. If she thinks there is this abundance of money, then there is [no] Money aplenty,” Mama June told Pumpkin’s attorney.

Pumpkin stood his ground, pointing out that the court might decide to order a larger quantity since all of Mama June’s financial records would be subpoenaed. But Mama June insisted she wasn’t able to pay the amount, suggesting she pay “a few hundred dollars a month.”

When the attorney explained the importance of child support to Mama June, she countered that if she assigned her rights to Alana, she would not have to pay. But the attorney told her she got it wrong because she just signed Alana’s custody to Pumpkin, who seemed angry at that point.

In a confessional, Pumpkin lashed out at her mother for claiming she helped her financially by catering to Alana’s needs. She also slammed Mama June for refusing to pay child support to Alana while spending her money on her fiancés past and present.

“You know Mom can claim to have helped us financially with Alana for the past four years, but that’s not the case. Unless I absolutely have to ask her for money. … For the past four years, me and Josh have had to deal with the financial strain of taking care of Alana,” she said.

Returning to her conversation with the attorney, Mama June made it clear that she would be more than willing to sign off on her rights to Alana and let Pumpkin adopt her daughter rather than having to pay $2,000 a month in child support.

“I can’t even believe the words that come out of Mom’s mouth. The fact that she would rather I adopt Alana and have her physically mine than ever yours and never have any responsibility than give me any kind of money. Make sense,” said an angry pumpkin.

She continued, “They’re literally blowing money 24/7 into this new man, a 24-year-old guy, Geno, Sugar Bear. All the money you throw at these men and you refuse to give me money for your child that I’ve been taking care of for four years now.”

In the end, Mama June and Pumpkin left the office without solving the problem. But a post-credits scene revealed that Pumpkin and her husband were awarded full custody of Alana, and Mama June was ordered to pay $800 a month in child support.

Now that Mama June: Road to Redemption Season 6 is over, fans might be wondering what’s next for the reality family. We TV has yet to cancel the show or extend it for another season. But there have been rumors of a new show starring Pumpkin and Alana without Mama June. The International Business Times could not confirm these rumors.
