Punjabi singer and rapper – also known as Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu – has been murdered in the Mansa district of Punjab, according to the National Congress of India party and local media.
A tweet shared from the official Twitter account of the Indian National Congress reads: “The murder of Shri Sidhu Moose Wala, Parliamentary candidate from Punjab & a talented musician, became a hit terrible shock to the Congress party and the whole nation.
“My deepest condolences to his family, fans and friends.
“We are united and undaunted, at this time of extreme grief.”
It was reported that at the time of his death Mr. Wala was accompanied by two other men before firing 30 rounds in the incident, which led to him being charged with murder.
In a subsequent tweet, the political movement added: “Law and order is an extremely sensitive issue.
“Be lost [sic] a young and promising leader towards indifference is incomprehensible.
“Those responsible for this barbaric murder must be held accountable.
“Justice must prevail, and we will make sure that happens.”
In addition to a successful career as a singer and rapper, Mr. Wala unsuccessfully ran as India’s Congress party candidate in the 2022 Punjabi elections last December.
The late star lost to Vijay Singla of the Aam Aadmi Party by a margin of 63,323 votes.

Rahul Gandhi, a member of the Indian National Congress, took to Twitter shortly after the news broke on Sunday to pay tribute to the late rapper and singer.
“Extremely shocked and saddened by the murder of promising Congress leader and talented artist, Sidhu Moosewala,” the politician wrote to his 20.6 million followers.
