Pussycat Dolls’ Ashley Roberts does not have to face accused stalker in court

Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts will not face her alleged stalker at his trial after the court heard about her concerns about being in the same room as him.

Ewis Langley allegedly repeatedly claimed the former Universal Dance star was his girlfriend and loitered outside the London radio station where she worked.

Prosecutors said the 47-year-old also “regularly” appeared outside an apartment believed to be her home address and asked staff working in the building to retrieve his belongings.

At a pre-trial hearing on Friday in which Langley was not required to appear, Croydon Magistrates Court heard a petition asking the singer to give evidence of the alleged ordeal remotely from her workplace. .

Prosecutor Alex Alawode said: “(Mrs Roberts) expressed concern about having to go to court and be in the same room as the defendant.

“It is said that the defendant believed he was having an affair with Miss Roberts, to the extent that he frequently went to the accommodation she lived in… and waited around the Heart radio studio in the Square. Leicester.”

Sam Gilmour, defense, opposed the petition, arguing that the radio presenter should not receive “special treatment” because of her celebrity status.

Ms Gilmour said it was a “judicial insistence” as defendants faced their accusers at trial and questioned “why (Mrs Roberts) should be given special treatment compared to with victims of domestic violence to appear in court”.
