Prince Charles and Camilla show their support for Ukraine

The Queen has made a “generous” donation in support of the humanitarian appeal of Ukraine’s Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

In a tweet, DEC wrote: “Thank you to Her Majesty The Queen for your continued support of the Disasters Emergency Committee and for your generous donation to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. @RoyalFamily #UkraineAppeal“.

Her donation comes after her son Prince Charles called the Russian invasion of Ukraine a “brutal aggression” earlier this week.

The Prince of Wales, who once compared Russian President Putin to Nazi leader Hitler, became the first senior royal to speak out for Ukraine today when he called for “solidarity”.

At the Southend borough ceremony, the Prince paid tribute to the murdered local MP, Sir David Amess. said: “What we saw in the terrible tragedy at Southend was an attack on democracy, on open society, on liberty itself.

“We see that the same values are being attacked in the most unscrupulous way in Ukraine today.

“With our position that we take here, we are in solidarity with all those who oppose the brutal aggression.”

Charles was in Southend when the Essex seaside town was made a town by the Queen following the two-decade electoral campaign of the late Southend West MP, who was stabbed and killed last October.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also tweeted their support for the Ukrainian people.

After Meghan began the couple’s speech, Harry said: “Before I begin, we would like to express our appreciation to the people of Ukraine who desperately need our continued support as a global community.”
