Queen says she is “touched and humbled” by Jubilee in emotional thank you message

The Queen joined members of the Royal Family including Prince Charles and Kate Middleton on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to mark the end of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations

The Queen has sent a message of thanks to people around the world following her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Her historic 70-year reign was celebrated with four days of events and engagements, including a Red Arrows flypast, a Thanksgiving service and a star-studded concert at Buckingham Palace.

The monarch rounded off the celebrations on Sunday night with an appearance on the palace balcony with her three heirs, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George.

They were joined by Camilla, the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Shortly after, she posted a message that said: “When it comes to celebrating seventy years as your Queen, there is no guide you can follow. It’s really a first. But I was humbled and deeply touched that so many people took to the streets to celebrate my platinum anniversary.

“While I may not have personally attended every event, my heart went out to you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.

“I was inspired by the kindness, joy and connection that has been so evident over the past few days and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come.

“I sincerely thank you for your well wishes and for the role you all played in these happy celebrations.”

Tens of thousands of people gathered at The Mall and sang the national anthem while The Firm smiled and waved to the crowd.

Earlier in the day, members of the family sat in the royal box to watch the spectacular folk competition.

Little Louis stole the show with a series of hilarious facial expressions and he was spotted trying to cover his mum Kate’s mouth with his hand and blowing raspberries.

The parade included seven buses laden with national treasures representing each decade of the Queen’s reign.

It was not known if the Queen would appear today after being forced to call off engagements on Friday and Saturday due to medical reasons.

However, the crowd erupted when the royal standard was raised at the palace, showing that it had arrived.

Sunday’s event rounds off a spectacular four-day celebration that will see Brits rewarded with an extra bank holiday to celebrate.

It started on Thursday with Trooping the Color, where the Queen made two balcony appearances. The first was with her cousin while inspecting the troops.

However, when she returned later in the day, she was joined by the rest of the working royals, including Charles, Camilla, the Cambridges and the Wessexes and Princess Anne.

Prince Andrew, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have all been particularly absent from the balcony as they are no longer royals.

However, Meghan and Harry stepped into the limelight on Friday when they attended a Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral.

It’s their first royal engagement since stepping out in 2020 and the first time they’ve been publicly reunited with the royals since their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
