Party at the Palace: The Queen’s emotional message snubs Harry

The Queen has heartily thanked her late husband in a powerful speech.

The monarch said Prince Philip had played a crucial role in protecting “our fragile planet” – and praised son Charles and grandson William for carrying on his work.

Prince Charles was spotted wiping his eyes at the mention of his father, who died last year aged 99.

Alongside a projection of the Duke of Edinburgh beamed onto the walls of Buckingham Palace, the Queen said in a recorded speech: “It fills me with great pride that my husband’s leadership role in encouraging people to protect our fragile planet play continued through the work of our eldest son Charles and his eldest son William.

“I couldn’t be prouder of her.”

The 96-year-old monarch was absent from today’s concert, which celebrates her 70th jubilee, but was scheduled to attend at home in Windsor Castle.

A sketch previously aired showed her meeting Paddington Bear – and revealed a jam sandwich she carries around.

The Queen, the bear adopted by the British, hosted a tea party at Buckingham Palace before the Queen and Adam Lambert kicked off tonight’s performances.

The two-and-a-half-minute sketch, kept secret by palace assistants for months, featured a computer-generated Paddington delighted to learn the Queen shares his love of jam sandwiches.

When the beloved bear shows the Queen what he’s hiding under his hat, the Queen affirms, “Me too,” before opening her bag and remarking, “I keep mine here.”

Senior palace sources revealed that the queen jumped at the opportunity to take part in the skit and was so careful not to leak her performance that she didn’t tell members of her own family.

Prince Charles paid tribute to his “much missed dad” in a speech at tonight’s event.

He made the sweet remark in front of a crowd of 22,000 as he paid tribute to the Queen during a star-studded jubilee concert tonight.

While paying tribute to his “mom,” he said, “On behalf of all of us, I wanted to pay my own tribute to your lifetime of selfless service

“Her family now spans four generations. You are our head of state. And you are our mother too.

“Your ‘strength and perseverance’ will be greatly missed tonight but I’m sure he’s here in spirit…

“My dad would have enjoyed the show and wholeheartedly joined us in celebrating all you continue to do for your country and your people.”
