The Queen can’t get enough of a traditional British staple – and always grabs fish and chips when she’s in the mood for a bite at Balmoral.

There’s clearly no shortage of excellent local chippies at Her Majesty’s Scottish holiday home, and if she feels like it, she’ll always enjoy the classic whenever she gets hungry.

She selects one of the approximately £10 dishes from the nearby town of Ballater every time she places an order, rather than the gourmet fare you might expect from a king.

But fish and chips are not only on the monarch’s menu north of the border.

“A servant is dispatched from the city of Ballater to retrieve it.”

A former chef to the Queen herself has explained the “slick” way Her Royal Highness is ordering fish and chips when she’s back in England.

Darren McGrady says that instead of cooking the fish by enrobing it in batter and deep-frying it in lard or oil, Her Majesty likes it coated in breadcrumbs and baked.

He also told The Telegraph that she couldn’t be described as a “foodie,” unlike her late husband Prince Phillip, who “loves to eat and talks about food all day.”

When she travels, the Queen eats Dundee cakes and is particularly careful about the type of water she drinks – Malvern water has often been asked to use in her tea.

The Queen isn’t the only king who enjoys grabbing a takeaway meal.

Prince William, 40, is a big fan of pizza, Chinese and Nandos.

Such was his love for Nando’s that he even told co-founder Robert Brozin he was the chain’s “biggest fan” after his police protection officer HELLO! reported.

While William’s wife Kate told BBC Radio One in an interview with the BBC in 2017 that she likes curry for dinner.
