The Queen was spotted arriving at Aberdeen Airport as she travels back to Windsor ahead of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The 96-year-old monarch has been enjoying a short break at her Balmoral estate ahead of her busy schedule which begins on Thursday.

The Queen is understood to have arrived at her private home in Scotland last Thursday. She usually visits Scotland at this time of the year.

But after a few days of relaxation, she was pictured arriving at Aberdeen Airport today to make the journey south ahead of the much-anticipated celebrations.

The monarch has attended a number of high-profile engagements in recent weeks and is understood to be picking up a pace now ahead of the start of national events.

In recent months, mobility issues have forced the Queen to withdraw from several high-profile events, including the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey and the State Opening of Parliament.

However, she was healthy enough to perform at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and Paddington Station for the official opening of the new Elizabeth Line.

She was also touring the Chelsea Flower Show last Monday but was wheeled around in a buggy enjoying the creations of some of the world’s top garden designers from the comfort of the back seat.

The 96-year-old is celebrating her 70th anniversary with her Platinum Jubilee – what makes the event even more special is the fact that she is the first British monarch to do so.

After “careful consideration”, the Queen has decided to ban Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Prince Andrew from appearing next to her – and to restrict relatives on the balcony to working royals.

Next Friday begins with the bells ringing at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to mark a Thanksgiving service that is expected to be attended by all members of her family – including Harry and Meghan.

On Saturday, royals are expected to attend the Epsom Derby before the Platinum Party at the Palace event – ​​a music concert at Buckingham Palace.

The last day of the four-day special Bank Holiday weekend, Sunday, gets underway at midday with more than 60,000 people across the UK hosting Big Jubilee Lunches.

After the plates and tables have been cleared, a band of 10,000 Britons will tell the story of Her Majesty’s Reign in a 12-act pageant.

The final rehearsals for the pageant took place this morning as the golden state carriage drove through the streets of London.

Meanwhile, some royal fans are already on the Mall outside Buckingham Palace, snapping up prime positions to watch Trooping the Color on Thursday.
