The Queen will send members of the royal family to their home countries this week to celebrate her platinum anniversary.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Wales, while Princess Anne will travel to Scotland, while Britons toast Her Majesty’s record-breaking 70-year reign.

Prince Edward and his wife Sophie will travel to Northern Ireland from Thursday to Sunday for the start of the celebrations.

Millions across the UK, boosted by funding from the National Lottery and the Commonwealth, will be partying over the bank holiday long weekend.

William and Kate will not be attending the Epsom Derby on Saturday but will be visiting Cardiff Castle.

The trip takes place ahead of the concert at Buckingham Palace that evening, which features acts including Queen and Diana Ross.

The Duke and Duchess will meet stars such as Bonnie Tyler and Owain Wynn Evans and crew involved in the special Platinum Jubilee Celebration Concert taking place on the Castle grounds.

The gig will be hosted by Aled Jones and Shan Cothi and will feature performances by some of Wales’ best known singers and entertainers alongside choirs, bands and orchestras.

The Queen, 96, who is a big fan of horse racing, is considered doubtful for the derby and will face the pageant in central London on Sunday.

A royal source said: “It is important for the family to see as many people as possible as part of the anniversary celebrations, which will hopefully be enjoyed by millions across the country.”

The pageant closes the weekend with a rousing finale featuring singer Ed Sheeran.

The Mirror previously revealed how Her Majesty plans to appear twice on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

It includes the end of the pageant as Sheeran belts out the national anthem. Royal sources said the Queen wanted to “take the opportunity to thank the public” and was being accompanied by a small group of her family.

They include their heirs, Princes Charles, William and George, eight.

Princess Anne will represent the monarch at the derby after returning from Scotland on Friday, where she and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence will visit Edinburgh Zoo.

The Princess Royal will also stop aboard HMS Albion to thank Royal Navy personnel for their efforts.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla remain in London, where they will attend a luncheon at the Oval Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Edward and Sophie will also attend a gathering in Windsor as part of the Big Jubilee Lunch.

The celebrations begin with the return of Trooping the Color.

The peloton is led by Sir Chris Hoy and cycling gold couple Dame Laura and Sir Jason Kenny.

They are among the six ‘hero cyclists’ who will race towards Buckingham Palace on Sunday. Strictly Come Dancing professionals will join the pack on a pedal-powered vehicle.

A cast of 6,000 people are set to take part in the £15million competition, which stretches over 3km.

Around 205 vehicles will be there, including Land Rovers, James Bond vehicles and the Del-Boy tricycle.

The pageant is divided into four acts and includes a military parade, culture and fashion from the last 70 years, carnival creations from the life of the Queen and the musical Happy and Glorious.
