The Queen’s arrival at Windsor Castle
At Windsor Castle, the Queen will arrive for the lighting ceremony from the Sovereign’s Entrance into the Quadrangle. Her Majesty’s arrival will be signaled by a trumpet fanfare before the Queen is greeted by Bruno Peek LVO OBE, who has overseen the Platinum Jubilee Beacons Project.
At the same time, outside Buckingham Palace, the Duke of Cambridge will meet the Chair of the Queen’s Green Canopy, Sir Nicholas Bacon, and the Designer of the ‘Tree of Trees’, Thomas Heatherwick, to learn how the sculpture was created. School children who took part in the Queen’s Green Canopy Junior Forester Award will also be in attendance, as well as young leaders from Boy Scouts, Girlguiding and the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, all of whom have been involved with the Platinum Jubilee Beacons Project.
Then in Windsor, under the supervision of Her Majesty, the Commonwealth Globe of Nations – specially created for the Beacons project and on public display in the Tower of London since April – will be placed on a podium by representatives of the Yeoman Warders.
Her Majesty will then proceed to the podium and with a symbolic touch of the globe, The Queen will initiate the lighting of the Principal Beacon in front of Buckingham Palace.
