R. Kelly convicted in sex trafficking trial

Federal prosecutors want convicted sex offender R. Kelly to receive more than 25 years in prison for “protecting the public,” according to a new legal filing.

R&B singer Kelly is expected to be sentenced on June 29 after he was found guilty of sexually abusing women, boys and girls over decades.

Kelly was found guilty of all nine counts against him during his sex trafficking trial, which took place in September.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York wrote to the judge about the case.

The US attorney’s office also criticized the singer for “relying on his fame, money, and popularity as an R&B recording star to both commit and conceal his crimes”.

The 31-page filing adds: “He continued his crimes and avoided punishment for them for almost 30 years and must now be dealt with.”

Federal prosecutors note that if they do, Kelly will be in her 70s when she gets out of prison.

The filing outlines Kelly’s “callousness” that he showed his victims during decades of sexual abuse and exploitation.

During last year’s trial, authorities called 45 witnesses to detail the horrific abuse Kelly’s victims suffered.

It also warned Kelly’s “inability to be prevented from sexually abusing and exploiting children and others”.

Prosecutors also said that Kelly had “shown no remorse for any of her behaviour”.

“Indeed, the defendant’s decades of crime appear to have been fueled by narcissism and the belief that his musical talents have spared him the need to conform to his conduct – regardless of hunting. bait, harm, humiliate or abuse others – with the rigor of the law,” the filing concluded.

In September, a jury of seven men and five women found Kelly guilty on all counts of fraud after their second day of deliberation.

The rapper was convicted in a sex trafficking trial after decades of allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Kelly is known for her 1996 hit I Believe I Can Fly.
