Rail commuters in Sussex are facing travel disruptions after an incident

COMMUTERS face disruption after multiple train services were delayed, canceled or changed following an incident.

Direct Southern and Thameslink services between Brighton and Cambridge and Three Bridges and Bedford have been suspended, with greatly reduced service between Bedford and Gatwick Airport and Brighton.

Govia Thameslink, which operates services from both companies, said delays and disruption ensued after a person was hit by a train traveling between Bedford and London St Pancras International.

The rail company has warned of delays of over an hour and cancellations of services, urging passengers to postpone any journey until later in the day.

One commuter said: “All services from Haywards Heath have been cancelled, meaning I have had to catch a train to Littlehampton.

“It’s frustrating because I’m late for work, but understandable given what sounds like a sad incident going forward.”

The disruption is expected to last until 1 p.m.

Passengers can use their tickets on local buses and alternative train routes including:

  • London Underground lines covering all necessary routes
  • Metrobus services between Horsham and Three Bridges
  • Southern trains between London and Horsham
  • Gatwick Express between Brighton, Gatwick Airport and London Victoria
