Will Mellor has expressed delight that his Two Pints podcast with Ralf Little has been helping people with their mental health through lockdown.

The actor, 45, and his former Two Pint Lager and a Packet of Chips co-star Ralf, 42, decided to create a podcast just ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the country went into lockdown to bring the virus under control, the duo continued to record their episodes, albeit not from their usual spot at the pub.

And Will has revealed the satisfaction he feels after fans wrote to the couple about how this has helped them through the difficult time.

He said: “Because of the lockdown, a lot of people have come forward and said it [the podcast] helped them through lockdown and gave them something to hear, something to look forward to, especially when the pubs were closed. You could have a beer with us.”

Will, who is an ambassador for mental health kaleidoscope and group team KPG, admitted that keeping his own focus and keeping him engaged has also helped him since his brain is “active all the time”.

And touching on the conversation about mental health, he continued, “I think it helps to talk about mental health. When you say mental health, there’s a broad spectrum of what that means, but for me it helps to talk and interact with people and to be able to open up and talk about things helps.”

“It’s always good to share and open up and it’s sometimes easier said than done, but you’d be surprised how often someone else offers a message when you speak.

“You know, I was like that and you realize that other people suffer too, but they were silent.”

The couple’s hit podcast has been listened to over 41 million times and received rave reviews for offering their own general chat and hilarious banter.

However, the brilliant mix of conversations sometimes touches on more sensitive subjects, like the death of Will’s father. They also had several guests who shed light on their own mental health issues, including Joe Tracini.

And they’re now ready to get their show on the road as they prepare to entertain fans across the UK with Two Pints with Will and Ralf Live!

Will admits he’s nervous about the live show, especially since they don’t have the convenience of an edit button.

He also calls it “disheartening” to walk in front of a crowd again but is looking forward to playing at the 14 venues.

Opening up on what people can expect, he said that while there will be some structure, much of the show can’t be planned as they intend to engage the audience and talk about topical issues.

Will Mellor has had to record his podcast from home during lockdown

“Maybe we play some Will vs. Ralf games on stage,” he suggests, referring to the latest addition to their podcast’s Patreon section.

“[There’ll be] a few surprises along the way, maybe some music, I don’t want to go into too much detail,” he added.

“We didn’t just sit and talk for an hour and a half because I wouldn’t pay to see that and I wouldn’t expect anyone to pay to see that because you can see that on the pod.

“We want to offer them something special and make them feel like they are part of something special.”
