Ralf Rangnick faces Cristiano Ronaldo decision with Sir Alex Ferguson in sight

The Man Utd interim manager has quite the headache of being selected with Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of meeting a struggling Everton side amid comments from Sir Alex Ferguson last year

Ralph Rangnik has his cards close to his chest about whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be right back in the Manchester United Starting XI for the trip to everton this weekend.
The Red Devils trade Manchester for Merseyside in a big clash for both sides and their respective Champions League qualification or First League hopes of survival. United go into the duel after a disappointing home game Leicester City most recently ended in a 1-1 draw.
Ronaldo missed the game against the Foxes through illness and his absence was felt badly by a United side who had no clear direction for the future. Bruno Fernandes was used in a role similar to his Portugal teammate would normally be, but wouldn’t make the grade.
Rangnick has since confirmed Ronaldo is fit for Goodison Park but has not confirmed if the 37-year-old has played five times Ballon d’Or Winner would start against the Toffees from the start. It was also a somber fitness update for full-back Luke Shaw following his injury last weekend.
“Kristiano [Ronaldo] is back,” said the interim manager. “Hatch [Shaw] is still injured. He’ll be out for the next two or three weeks. “Three other first-team regulars had a similar experience.”[Edinson] Cavani is still injured, [Raphael] Varane is still injured and the same goes for [Scott] McTominay.”
The game between United and Everton earlier this season was the first to see Ronaldo left the starting line-up since his triumphant return to the club last summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came under intense scrutiny for leaving the iconic number seven on the bench.

The game eventually ended 1-1 with Andros Townsend equalizing an attempt from Anthony Martial. After the final whistle, footage circulated of legendary figure Sir Alex Ferguson giving UFC superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov – a friend of the striker – his views on Ronaldo’s omission.
“I also think Ronaldo wasn’t playing when they saw Ronaldo not playing,” said Ferguson, who was interrupted by Nurmagomedov, who said: “He came on as a second-half substitute.” The legendary former United manager replied: “I know, but you should always start with your best players.”
Solskjaer was out of work less than two months later and while Rangnick’s tenure is likely to end at the end of the season, he will know Ronaldo’s start is sure to boost United’s faint hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, having admitted that there is no margin for error .
