Sonic Origins Sonic and Knuckles punch and kick each other as usual

Ahhh, you can always count on Devolver Digital to take the bull by the horns and have fun in any situation. And this time, Sega is the butt of the joke.

Earlier this week, Sega’s long-awaited Sonic compilation, Sonic Origins, was given an official June 23 release date after being leaked for a few days. And while some people were excited, it was hard to ignore the messy pre-order table Sega created for the collection. Luckily we have a handy little guide to break it all down for you, but we also want to know what you think of this bizarre move by Sega:

However, imagine not having to do this. A lot of people wonder why a compilation of old Sonic games needs a bunch of extras. Surely we only want to play the best versions of the classic five with a range of quality of life features and everything accessible without paywalls?

Leave it to Devolver to seize the opportunity to poke fun at Sega over its Sonic Origins pre-order chart. In a rather amusing move, the publisher took this opportunity to promote one of its own games – Trek to Yomi.

When things like bonus animations and letterboxed backgrounds are locked to pre-orders (or given as early access bonuses if you pre-order special editions), it’s hard not to have a belly laugh when Devolver releases “Full credits at the end” and “Notable Soundtrack” in their own spoof table. Can you imagine if a developer locks the credits behind a paywall? Although there are many games where the “true ending” requires you to pick up and pay for additional DLCs.

Our friends at Eurogamer have reached out to Sega about their pre-order bonuses. Given the amount of backlash and confusion it’s caused, Sega may need to reconsider things. But at least Devolver gave us a little laugh.
