Kingdom Hearts is kinda in the bad books for Nintendo fans right now. After years of begging for the franchise to debut on the Nintendo Switch, we got what we asked for… albeit via a terrible cloud version. We said in our review of the Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece that the port was “incredibly disappointing” and gave it a 5/10.

Still, it’s fun to see the series getting nods from Disney itself with the latest Disney+ Mickey Mouse special – “The Wonderful Spring of Mickey Mouse‘ – featuring none other than Kingdom Key D, the key blade worn by Mickey Mouse for most of the series.

It’s not often that Disney itself references Kingdom Hearts, so that funny little nod definitely put a smile on our faces regardless of our feelings towards the cloud versions of the series on Switch.

In fact, via the tweet below, storyboard revisionist Amber Vucinich thanked her for including the keyblade before wishing the franchise a “nearly 20th anniversary” (wow, has it been that long?).

Although Switch fans will have to put up with cloud versions for the games, it’s not all doom and gloom. Series protagonist – Sora – rounded out the insane roster of fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, releasing on October 18, 2021.

Will you be watching The Wonderful Spring of Mickey Mouse on Disney+? Have you grabbed the cloud versions of Kingdom Hearts on Switch? Let us know!
