If you like something star trek — and what an intelligent, attractive person not? – There are certainly plenty of those at the moment. New series, new movies, new games; It’s a rich time for fans of the last frontier. Star Trek: Picard is currently deep into its second season, with the full main cast of The next generation Confirmed to return in Season 3 and beyond Star Trek: Strange New Worlds seems to offer a return to the planet-of-the-week-style episodic format fans of “Legacy” Trek have been waiting for.

However, we recently stumbled upon the beginnings of a fan project that brought even more nostalgia to our torpedo bays. Behold a bold meeting of two of our very favorite things in the universe: Star Trek: TNG and Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

artist-animator @Amaruk is the genius in charge posting on his fan art twitter account @SpinaSanctuaryand as you can see from the tweets below, the low poly mix of MM X TNG looks absolutely amazing.

The idea seems to have started recently when she tweeted the fabled words “What if Star Trek but Zelda 64????” before posting a 64-bit version of Captain Picard’s Ressikan flute from ‘The Inner Light’ shortly after:

The artist decided that the episode “Masks” — a rare late TNG misfire falling into the so-bad-it-is-fascinating Category – was another natural fit for the Majora’s Mask mashup. Watch a beautifully blocky Picard who just found the mask of Korgano:

From there, the artist made rapid progress with low-poly versions of iconic Trek objects, plus Commander Data playing his violin and the dreaded Commander Riker on the bone, both rendered in glorious 64-bit form:

And finally, some audio for Jean-Luc’s Ressikan flute. Enough handkerchiefs, yes? We’re getting a little weepy…

For fans of both franchises, this feels like the most perfect mix imaginable. We’ve already pondered the whereabouts of the great Star Trek console games – and recently a Star Trek: Prodigy game was announced for Switch – but it’s amazing to see that for nostalgic Nintendo fans who like a bit of TNG, there is still hope.

The likelihood of this “ongoing personal low poly project” ever becoming playable is slim, but we’re happy to include a steady stream of gifs like this in our feeds. You can see more of the artist’s work on his Artstation page or via twitter. They’re also open to subscribers on Ko-Fi and also stream on Twitch (where we got a glimpse of it). Lt. Worf with his trusty Bat’leth). Be sure to express your great joy and gratitude.

On a scale of 10-10, tell us below how much you would like to play Star Trek 64.
