Rapper Kodak Black was arrested in South Florida on charges of trafficking in oxycodone and possession of narcotics.
The rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, has been detained in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
The Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement that soldiers pulled Black over because he was driving a purple SUV with a window tint that appeared darker than the legal limit.
They detected the smell of marijuana and then searched the SUV and found a small transparent bag with 31 white tablets and nearly $75,000 (£63,000) in cash. The pills were later identified as oxycodone.
Officials said an examination of the records also showed that Black’s driver’s license and license card had both expired.
Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, said on Twitter that “there are always additional facts and circumstances that lead to a defense, especially in this case.”
“We’re going to have a bond with him today and move on to resolving the matter quickly,” he said.
Black was also arrested earlier this year in South Florida on trespassing charges. Prosecutors later refused to proceed with the case.
In January 2020, then-US President Donald Trump commuted the rapper’s three-year federal prison sentence for falsifying documents used to purchase weapons.
Black has served half of his sentence.
