Rapper Stepz has overtaken competition from music stars Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran to become the most viewed UK artist account on TikTok in 2022.
The London-born musician has been announced as the lead in the social media giant’s Year On TikTok annual report, which reviews trends and creators over the past year.
He was previously named the breakout artist of the summer on TikTok after his song Cramp Dat, sampled from Soulja Boy’s 2007 hit Crank That, went viral on the platform.
Stepz, who now has 2.8 million followers on Tiktok, said: “Having an audience since I started using TikTok has allowed me to follow my dreams and enable my music. heard around the globe, all thanks to God + TikTok, my life changed!”
Smith came in at second place after TikTok users enjoyed the singer’s behind-the-scenes content and performed their hit Unholy with Kim Petras.
Meanwhile Sheeran, who topped the list last year after releasing three previews of the exclusive single from the Equals album, dropped to third place.
Sam Ryder, who rose to fame after coming second to Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, giving the UK its best result in more than 20 years, came in fourth.
According to TikTok, more than 3.3 million fans from around the world watched the Eurovision final on TikTok, making it the biggest live-streaming moment on the platform with a UK artist this year.
The singer from Essex first rose to fame via the video platform when he started uploading covers during the lockdown and caught the attention of global stars including Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys.
He was later signed to record label Parlophone, part of Warner Music Group, and has since gone on to perform at major events including the Platinum Jubilee concert and the Formula 1 Grand Prix. of England at Silverstone.
Ryder has now been named one of Tiktok’s Breakthrough Artists of 2022.

The most popular song in the UK this year on the social media platform is Sunroof by American singer Nicky Youre and producer Dazy.
Also making the top 10 at number six was Kate Bush’s 1985 record-breaking hit Running Up That Hill, which became internationally known after being featured in the fourth series of Stranger Things. .
We Don’t Talk About Bruno from the Disney animated film Encanto, which dominated the UK singles chart earlier this year, followed closely behind at number seven.
The hit song Jiggle Jiggle, based on a rap by Louis Theroux in the 2000 series Weird Weekends, also came in at number eight.
Music producers Duke and Jones remixed the rap and the song became a popular dance trend on TikTok earlier this year.

The Year on TikTok annual review is based on internal research and trend analysis conducted between January and October 2022, the social networking platform said.
