A Star Wars poster described as “one of the rarest ever” is being auctioned for aid to Ukraine.

His artwork was originally produced for the 1977 sci-fi epic by renowned American fantasy artists Greg and Tim Hildebrandt, known as the Hildebrandt Brothers.

Depicting Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia and marked with the designers’ last names, it is estimated to sell for between £5,000 and £7,000.

The Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope poster had a limited release and was later withdrawn from circulation and replaced by a more commercial Style C poster featuring illustrator Tom Chantrell’s work.

According to auction house Prop Store, this makes it “one of the rarest Star Wars posters ever”.

It will go on sale at the company’s headquarters in Hertfordshire with no stock and prices starting at just £10 to give as many fans as possible the chance to purchase the coveted product.

All proceeds from the sale of hammers will go to the Disaster Emergency Humanitarian Commission (DEC) which provides aid to people fleeing Ukraine after the Russian invasion.

Stephen Lane, chief executive officer of the Prop Store, said: “The Prop Store is delighted to support such an important cause by giving our Hildebrandt posters to charity during the Live Auction. Our upcoming Cinema posters will be on Thursday, March 24, 2022.

“With bidding starting at £10, fans with enough budget can place a bid on this amazing piece of charity and hopefully take home a rare and coveted piece of film memorabilia – we expect to see some stellar results for such an urgent appeal.”

The so-called Hildebrandt style posters will appear alongside more than 550 numerous rare film posters and artworks that are expected to fetch more than £200,000 in total.

The sale will take place on Thursday, March 24 from 3pm.
