Razzies take back Bruce Willis’ ‘honour’ after health problems were revealed

The satirical awards show The Golden Raspberry Awards said it had revoked the “honor” bestowed on Bruce Willis earlier this year after the actor’s health issues were revealed.

Organizers of the annual ceremony – known as the Razzies – said it was “inappropriate” to give gongs to those whose health conditions may have affected their performances.

The Razzies, who “honor” the worst in movies, hand out gongs for what are considered the lowlights of the Hollywood year.

The winners of the 42nd annual awards ceremony were presented on March 26, days before Willis’ family announced he was retiring from his career.

The 67-year-old actor has been diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that affects a person’s cognitive abilities.

“After much thought and deliberation, the Razzies have made the decision to annul the Razzie Award bestowed on Bruce Willis due to his recently announced diagnosis,” organizers said in a statement.

“Where an individual’s medical condition is a factor in their decision-making and/or performance, we recognize that giving them a raid is not appropriate.”

This year’s Razzies included a special new category titled Worst Performance By Bruce Willis In A 2021 Movie.

The actor competed against himself eight times in the category for films including American Siege, Apex, Deadlock and Out Of Death and “won” for his performance in Cosmic Sin.

The Razzies wrote on Twitter that they were “really sorry” to hear the news of Willis’ diagnosis.

“Maybe that explains why he wanted to go out with a bang in 2021,” the account reads.

“Our best wishes to Bruce and his family.”

Organizers also said they would revoke their nomination from Shelley Duvall, who was nominated in the early Razzies for her performance in The Shining.

“We have since found that Duvall’s performance was influenced by Stanley Kubrick’s handling of her throughout production,” they said.

“We would like to take this opportunity to withdraw this nomination as well.”
