Read it in its entirety: Bono likens Volodymyr Zelensky to St Patrick in a special poem

Irish rock legend Bono wrote a special poem, dedicated to the Ukrainian people and their inspirational leader, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The U2 frontman often writes a humorous poem before St. Patrick’s Day that he sends to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her annual St. Patrick’s Day lunch.

However with the situation in Ukraine Now, instead, Bono has written a poem he says is “not funny at all” and likens Vladimir Putin to a snake and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to St Patrick.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Bono wrote: “I have had a tradition of sending a goal for Nancy Pelosi’s Saint Patrick’s Day lunch for many years.

“This year’s goals are sporadic and not fun at all.

“We stand with the Ukrainian people and their leader. It wasn’t written for publication, but since it’s out, it’s here.”

Full poem:

Oh Saint Patrick, he drove away the snakes
With his prayers but that’s not all
Because the snake represents
An evil rises
And hide in your heart
When it broke
And evil has risen my friends
From the darkness that lives in some men
But in sadness and fear
That’s when the saints can appear
To scare away the old snakes again
And they fight for our freedom
From the psyche in this human family
Ireland’s Sorrows and Pains
Currently in Ukraine
And Saint Patrick’s name is now Zelenskyy
