‘Read the room’ – influencer criticized for checking in to The Savoy because her heating was broken

An influencer has sparked a backlash after revealing she was going to and staying at The Savoy hotel in London because her heating was “broken”.

ydia Millen (34), a UK influencer who posts “aspirational” content to TikTok, Instagram and Youtube, posted a video to TikTok on Tuesday (November 22) outlining the predicament hers.

“The heating in my house is down right now, so I’m heading down to London and going to The Savoy to make the most of their amazing hot water,” she says in the video, which has been viewed more than 980,000 times.

Millen then outlined what she would wear for her trip to London, starting with an Intimissi foundation (€45) and a Seraphina London dress (€422). She paired it with a pair of Calzedonia tights (18.5€), a Clementine and Mint velvet headband (€46) and Christian Louboutin’s “Kate” boots (1,500€).

To complete her look, Millen sprayed on Highgrove Bouquet from Penhaligon (180€), wore a coat she collaborated with Karen Millen (unrelated, 450€) and carried a Hermes Madame Sellier bag Birkin with gold accents (approximately €29,800).

Millen concludes: “And that’s my outfit of the day, I’m about to warm up. “Let me know what you think in the comments.”

TikTok users were quick to comment on Savoy’s comment, as basic rooms like luxury hotels can cost around €810 per night.

One person commented: “Here I am, the heating is off BECAUSE I CANNOT TURN ON”.

Millen replied: “My heart is broken too, it really hurts. I just hope you know other people’s reality can be different and it’s not wrong x.”

Someone replied to Millen’s comment: “It’s not wrong but he’s deaf. Heating is a very sensitive topic at the moment.”

Another added: “I’m going to someone’s parent’s funeral to scream how wonderful my surviving parents are but that’s okay because *reality is different*.”

Another said: “LMAOOOOOO, sis says you are not in my tax bracket, let me be warm at The Savoy. You will be safe this winter tho.

Another said: “I think the local Travel Lodge will definitely have hot water?” to which Millen replied: “We came here for work, it’s just a happy coincidence.”

Others asked if the video was a “joke” or “satire”, while another said: “It’s ‘let them eat cake’.”
