Real Health Podcast: Beating Burnout with Siobhan Murray

In this week’s program we deal with the topic of burnout.

We have all become more aware of this, especially in the wake of the pandemic. While the stresses of lockdowns, home schooling and working around the kitchen table are hopefully behind us, post-Covid life brings its own stresses.

Some people may be successful with the new hybrid work life, but it may not be for everyone. So tomorrow’s Workplace Wellbeing Day is the perfect time to take a look at what can be done to beat burnout.

I am joined by burnout expert and psychotherapist Siobhan Murray. Over three years ago, Siobhan joined me on the podcast to chat about her newly published book, The Burnout Solution. A lot has happened in these three years and burnout has never been more relevant.

Siobhan says that while burnout is often associated with work, she says it can be caused by many different situations: “One term I like to use is; Burnout is emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion brought on by emotionally challenging situations… That emotionally challenging situation can be work, it could be family, it could be extended family… so it’s not just work.”

We also discuss what some of the most common symptoms of burnout are, what you can do if you think a loved one is suffering from burnout, and what companies should be doing to take care of their employees.
