This week, on Real Health, we’ll be discussing eating disorders, what they are, and the impact they have on the health of someone with them.
An ating disorder is complex and affects both the mental and physical health of the sufferer. So when someone gets help, it’s usually from a group of people with different expertise.
Today, I’m joining with Aveen Bannon, a Dietitian at Nutrition Center Dublin who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, to tell us more about them and the role she plays in treatment.
For many people who decide to seek help for an eating disorder, Aveen says, contacting someone like a GP can be difficult: “Sometimes you can go to a psychologist or sometimes you go to a dietitian.
“The first thing is to make an appointment. You can feel a lot of pressure to suddenly have to do all of these things… Once the journey begins, it can be a little intimidating, but it’s worth it. would be worth it.”
Aveen also talks about the different forms of eating disorders and from her experience what some of the causes can be.
