Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Star Kyle Richards Proudly Shares Her Irish Ancestry: ‘I’m an All Irish Girl’

Not only is she the longest-serving veteran of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, having starred in all 12 seasons, Kyle Richards says she’s “the only Irish housewife” in the entire franchise.

I did this DNA genealogy study [into my family background] and always knew my mother is Irish, her whole family is Irish. But I thought my dad was Welsh and it turns out he’s of all Irish background too, so I’m an all Irish girl and the only Irish housewife.”

Proud of the title, Kyle admits it might be time to infuse some born-and-bred Celtic blood into the hugely successful reality series, and believes former Beverly Hills resident Claudine Keane would be the perfect match would.

The mother of two, who lived in Los Angeles while footballer husband Robbie Keane played for US club LA Galaxy, is close friends with Richards’ Housewives co-star Dorit Kemsley. Eagle-eyed fans have previously spotted the Irish power couple mingling with the Housewives cast during the Kemsley-threw parties featured on the show.

“Producers like it when it’s a real friendship, so Claudine would be a great housewife. She’s very close to Dorit, definitely has the right lifestyle, and definitely beautiful,” says Kyle.

Although the Keanes moved back to their native Dublin last year, the reality TV queen says she will lure the couple back to Hollywood with the lucrative offer when she finally visits the Irish coast.

By the way, Kyle was supposed to fly to Ireland with the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2016. The trip was supposed to appear on the show as the girls’ annual trip abroad, but due to last-minute planning, she and her castmates had to drop out to make it possible for the Real Housewives of Orange County to instead spend the vacation, with luxurious stays in the Powerscourt Hotel in Enniskerry and boozy nights in Temple Bar.

“This was to be our journey,” she yells. “I’m Irish, I wanted to follow my roots and something changed and we couldn’t go but the production had already cleared all these different locations in Dublin and Wicklow for us to film and OC[Housewives] In the end I took my trip.”

The 53-year-old, a former child actor who starred in Little House on the Prairie and the legendary Chiller Halloween, has long been a fan favorite since the Bravo reality show first aired in 2010.

Part of the phenomenally successful Real Housewives machine, which features shows based in New York, Orange County, Atlanta and New Jersey to name a few, Beverly Hills became an overnight hit in its first season and has been the highest-rated show ever since the world franchise.

Along with original castmates including charismatic restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump and Camille Grammer – formerly married to Frasier star Kelsey Grammer – fans were enthralled by the mum-of-four’s champagne lifestyle of decadent parties, lavish mansions and outrageous brokes.

“Before I started the show, the producers wanted to build a group around me, so I introduced people I knew,” she tells Magazine+ during a stopover in London. “There were clients of my husband [real estate magnate Mauricio Umansky] like Lisa Vanderpump and Camille Grammar and Adrienne Maloof who was Lisa’s neighbor.

“Camille came at the last minute and we argued a lot, so I regretted proposing her at the time. But in hindsight, our fights made for great TV.”

The volatile relationship between Kyle and her former child star sister, Kim, also played a central theme on the show, with memorable altercations including an infamous argument between the two in a limousine during season one that exposed Kim’s struggle with addiction.

“I brought my two sisters, Kim and Kathy [mother of Paris Hilton] into the show and we all saw what happened between Kim and I. One of my deepest moments was that fight in the limousine, I felt like it couldn’t go any lower.”

How is your relationship with Kim now? “She’s good,” Kyle replies cautiously. “She has the two most beautiful grandchildren. She’s gorgeous.”

And her friendship with Vanderpump? The couple, who had a close bond in the early series, fell out in the ninth season over allegations of lying. Where are they three years later?

“I’ve bumped into her a few times, but Lisa is someone who puts in the effort. And I think any kind of friendship repair is over. It’s been so many years since we haven’t been in each other’s lives. i think i am good I don’t have the energy to give to people and not get them back.”

With season 12 currently airing on streaming platform Hayu, the star recently came under fire for questioning castmate Sutton Stracke’s revelations about back-to-back miscarriages with controversial newcomer Diana Jenkins.

She also faced backlash for defending embattled housewife Erika Girardi’s offensive behavior towards Garcelle Beauvais’ family.

Criticism, says Kyle, is part of the job. “I’m used to it. It’s really confronting when it first happens and I have deep sympathy for new cast members like Diana.

“She came in with this attitude, ‘I don’t care what people think of me,’ but it didn’t last long. It never does. I didn’t watch that episode with the scene between Diana and Sutton, mostly because I kept doing the splits on the dance floor at Garcelle’s party that night because I was completely overwhelmed [on alcohol]but I know some things were said that people found offensive.

“It can be a lot to get on a show like this and get attacked on social media. We’ve all been through it. I checked with Diana and she’s quite concerned.”

Her acting career recently enjoyed a resurgence thanks to a crowd-pleaser return to the Halloween franchise in Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.

Does this mean the end of her time with Housewives? “I could walk away,” Kyle replies frankly. “Acting is my first love and if I had to choose, I would choose the option that scares me the least, which is not housewives. I ask myself after each season if I’m still enjoying it and if the good outweighs the bad then I’ll stick with it.”

At least until the Beverly Hills Housewives team reschedule this much-delayed trip to Ireland, Magazine+ adds. “Oh yes,” she laughs. “Or maybe I can move to Ireland and start over and it can be fresh and new again.”

Is the reality star aware of the Irish iteration of the Housewives franchise Dublin Wives, which aired for two seasons on TV3, now Virgin Media, from 2012? “I actually heard about it. I have some great fan clubs that follow me and some of them are from Ireland and I’m sure they have told me about it. is it on youtube I really want to see it now. It will help me work on my Irish accent.” Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Star Kyle Richards Proudly Shares Her Irish Ancestry: ‘I’m an All Irish Girl’
