Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt LIVE: Super Cup latest results and goal updates as Thibaut Courtois saves early

UEFA Super Cup preview: Can you at Eintracht Frankfurt vs Real Madrid?

Real Madrid kick off their competitive football season tonight with the UEFA Super Cup final against German club Eintracht Frankfurt. Last season’s Champions League and Europa League winners meet to be crowned Europe’s best at the start of the new season following their respective victories against Liverpool and Rangers in May.

Los Blancos are aiming to become joint record holders of this trophy alongside LaLiga rivals Barcelona and Italian giants AC Milan, who have both won the trophy five times, compared to Real’s four wins. Madrid’s last win in this competition came in 2017, but a year later they suffered defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Eintracht Frankfurt wants to become the second German club to win the Super Cup. Bayern Munich are the only German team to have won the competition, although Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg and Werder Bremen all had their shot at glory. Eintracht will seemingly have the better support in Helsinki, where the game takes place. They have already sold out their ticket contingent from Uefa and their fans have bought additional tickets that went on sale for the 36,000 seat Olympic Stadium.
