Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington had to undergo emergency surgery after suffering a miscarriage.

He, 33-year-old former competitive swimmer, shared a lengthy Instagram post describing how she discovered she had lost her pregnancy during a 12-week ultrasound on Tuesday.

Adlington said she left hospital on Thursday but was admitted on Friday and treated for sepsis, kidney infection and fever.

Although she is now “gradually fixing up”, she says it has been a “devastating time” for her and her husband.

Sharing a photo from the hospital holding a cup of tea, Adlington wrote: “On Tuesday Andy and I went to the hospital for a 12-week check-up only to find out we had miscarried and had to have emergency surgery. grant. I managed to be discharged on Thursday only to be admitted on Friday.

“After a day of treatment for sepsis, kidney infection and fever, I am slowly recovering. Long way to go but I’m at the right place.

“I cannot thank the hospitals and the staff for their support. It’s been a devastating time but it’s important in times like these, we remember we’re not alone and there’s a lot of support.
