Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney: What’s Their Friendship Story?

Coleen Rooney is being sued after she accused Rebekah Vardy, wife of Leicester City striker Jamie, of leaking “false stories” to the tabloids.

In October 2019, Rooney sent shockwaves through social media when she published a Twitter post claiming that Vardy had shared posts from her personal Instagram account with The Sun newspaper.

Rooney said she suspected someone she “trusted” was behind the leaks and to find out who was sharing the information, she restricted access to who could see the posts.

“After trying for a long time to find out who it could be, I had my suspicions for a variety of reasons. To prove this, I came up with an idea,” she explained.

“I blocked everyone from viewing my Instagram stories except ONE account.

“Over the last five months I’ve published a number of fake stories to see if they made their way into The Sun newspaper. And guess what, they did!

She claimed: “Now I know for certain which account/person it came from. I have saved and screened all the original stories clearly showing that only one person viewed them. It is ……………. Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

Vardy denied the allegations, writing in a post on her own Twitter account that she “never” speaks to journalists about Rooney.

“If you thought this was happening you could have told me and I could have changed passwords to see if it stops,” she wrote.

“Over the years, different people have had access to mine [Instagram] and just this week i found out i’m following people i didn’t know and have never followed myself.

How did Coleen and Rebekah meet?

The two are said to have met through their footballer husbands.

In 2016, they sat next to each other in the stands for the England vs Wales match at the European Championship.

Vardy wore an English shirt while Rooney wore a striped red shirt.

Both women smiled, cheered and vigorously threw their arms in the air as England won the game 2-1.

The game is the only time the couple has been seen together in public.

Did you have a close friendship?

In her 2019 Twitter post, Rooney described Vardy as someone she “trusted.”

“For a number of years, someone I have trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account has been constantly informing The Sun newspaper of my private posts and stories,” she said.

Vardy wrote on Twitter that she was “so upset” by the allegations and that she was “very” fond of Rooney before the argument.

“I’m disgusted that I have to deny this at all. You should have called me the first time that happened,” Vardy said.

Are your husbands friends?

Wayne and Jamie had a close working relationship, both playing for England at Euro 2016 games.

Rumors of a feud between the pair surfaced during the tournament after Wayne allegedly “warned” Jamie about Vardy’s social media presence, according to The Times.

Vardy denied the reports at the time, writing on Twitter that the rumors were “nonsense” and that outlets reporting it “must just be having a bad day”.

The rift was also denied by England manager Roy Hodgson, who told a press conference that there were “absolutely no problems” between Wayne and Jamie.

“On the contrary, they are very close friends both on and off the field. I would definitely advise Wayne not to comment on this because it’s obviously a very salacious story that someone kind of spun but she’s not interested in us.” Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney: What’s Their Friendship Story?
