Reggie Fils-Aimé Not a Believer in the ‘Current Definition’ of Facebook’s Reverse Vision

Former Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé questioned the “current definition” of Facebook’s hyper-reverse vision, saying, “Facebook itself is not an innovative company.”
Speaking with Bloomberg’s Emily Chang at SXSW, Fils-Aimé shared his thoughts on the current state of the so-called metaverse and discussed why he doesn’t believe Facebook is currently on the right track to lead.
“Facebook itself isn’t an innovative company,” says Fils-Aimé, “They’ve got interesting things like Oculus and Instagram, or a quick follower of people’s ideas. I don’t think their current definition will succeed. ”
Instead, Fils-Aimé thinks the digital future many are striving for will be led by “smaller companies that are really innovating” and companies like Epic Games that are doing things right. “really fascinating”.
Fils-Aimé also spoke about how he believes that more and more acquisitions by game companies are happening after Microsoft’s “great purchase” of Activision Blizzard and that the gaming industry still has a long way to go. about diversity.
Fils-Aimé says: “This is a global industry that touches 3 billion people around the world; It’s a $200 billion business.”
Finally, he shed some light on his time on GameStop’s board and shared some criticism of the company’s leadership and plans for the future. Fils-Aime leaves the board in early 2021.
“There is no clear strategy. Management said we didn’t want to make our strategy clear because they didn’t want it stolen,” he said.
