Never in my wildest dreams, driving an old Renault 4L, would I have thought that I would ever see his name on a chunky 4×4 – and an electric one at that.
But that’s what will happen – because the first images that have just been released give strong indications of what it will look like.
We’ll no doubt be hearing a lot more about it as part of the preparations for the global unveiling at this month’s Paris Motor Show.
Launched more than 60 years ago, the Renault 4 was the world’s first mass-produced hatchback.
According to Renault, up to eight million were made in assembly plants as far away as Ireland and Uruguay over its 33-year lifespan.
The concept is expected to be sold as a premium SUV and not be the cheap and cheerful type with a low-cost label like its bargain predecessor.
It will be based on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-BEV subcompact platform and will benefit from new battery and motor technology.
