Renewing the cord is always an uphill battle

Wendell Pierce never received an Emmy nomination for his role as Detective Bunk Moreland on the street, but he is adored among “The Wire” fans. If there was the soul of the show, he could be it. Bunk is a principled cop who keeps his head down and does the tireless work of investigating cases with little hope of being solved. His partner, McNulty (Dominic West), has always been a source of serious trouble, largely because he is an anti-authoritarian drunk who hates to lose an argument.

It’s a hilarious dynamic, and we’ve been lucky enough to have five seasons of it. As Pierce said washington articlesit’s magical that we even have more than one:

“Almost every year we have to wait to see if we get an extension. I remember one particular year David. [Simon, creator, writer and executive producer] had to submit six specification scripts before they approved it. When we first saw it, it was very new and innovative in the way it told stories that I clearly remember telling Sonja Sohn and Andre Royo – we were watching it together – Let’s save money your. Because this is going nowhere. “ Renewing the cord is always an uphill battle
