Rep. Caroline Lucas backs energy reform amid price cap crisis

GREEN MEP Caroline Lucas has called for the nationalization of energy companies to counter the looming price crisis.

Inflation peaked at 10.1 percent today, with wages lagging inflation, according to ONS statistics.

The Brighton Pavilion MP suggested the Big Five energy companies should become public property and cap fuel bills to autumn 2021 prices.

She said: “Just this week I heard from a mother of two disabled children in Brighton & Hove who is worried about how her family will cope if she cannot pay her bills.

“People across the city are faced with a cost-of-living scandal that is leaving them with impossible choices about how to make ends meet.

“The government needs to step in – to get a grip on rising bills and keep people warm this winter. While other parties offer only temporary band-aids – or nothing at all – the Greens have a plan to address the magnitude of the crisis.”

In addition to the demands for the nationalization of the energy suppliers, the Greens are also calling for a house insulation program run by the municipalities.

The news comes as Sussex and Britain residents face a deepening cost of living crisis, with energy bills expected to skyrocket in October.

Energy price caps are expected to rise significantly in the coming months, with the maximum amount that can be paid almost doubling to around £3,582.

The plans announced by the Greens are the furthest any party has gone in dealing with the energy crisis, with Labor proposing a six-month price freeze and the Conservatives offering one-off payments to UK households. Rep. Caroline Lucas backs energy reform amid price cap crisis
