Rescue teams were called to a leaking tanker off Newhaven

RESCUE teams were called to a leaking tanker in a shipping lane this morning.

The 155 meter tanker, lying 15 miles off the coast of Newhaven, is said to have been standing on one side due to a leak.

Newhaven RNLI was called at 10.47am this morning following the emergency call.

They participated in their all-weather lifeboat along with a Coast Guard helicopter.

The leak was fixed by the crew while rescue teams stood by.

The tanker had 21 people on board.

Both rescue teams were dispatched after just over an hour.
