A restaurant owner gave the “keyboard warriors” a barbaric response after some harsh reviews.

Michael Evans opened Smashed, a burger and craft beer bar based in Preston, last August but went to a boil after some online reviewers called the food ‘very average ‘ and staff labeled as ‘very pompous’.

He gave them ultimatums – and invited unhappy customers into his bar if they felt there was a problem.

Michael said the hospitality industry has been hit hard during the Covid-19 pandemic and wants customers to address issues face-to-face, not through the comfort of a keyboard.

Smashed is proudly topping the Tripadvisor leaderboard in Preston and is rated five stars from 104 reviews, Lancs Direct reporting.

“We’re the first to admit if we’re wrong, we’ll apologize and try to make things right, remember that you pay for an experience that’s more than just a commodity. We i’m human… mistakes happen…if we want 100% of our customers there will be something seriously wrong because no one in life is perfect.

“People are getting really upset and they’re hiding behind their keyboards. I just don’t know why people are so upset with small businesses. When it comes to an independent, family business, they seem to be constantly getting garbage.

“It’s not just me. It’s killing the hotel industry, it’s pointless.”
