Reuters Removes Russian State News Agency TASS From Its Content Marketplace – POLITICO

Reuters will remove all content from the Russian state news agency TASS from its business-to-business service Reuters Connect, it said in an internal email to employees on Wednesday.

The well-known news outlet said that “making TASS content available on Reuters Connect does not comply with Thomson Reuters’ trust policies.”

The move follows growing criticism of the Kremlin-backed news organization’s portrayal of the war in Ukraine. Reports from several Reuters journalists earlier this week triggered alarms on the company’s partnership with the state-controlled Russian media organization, dating back to 2020. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, this partnership and TASS’s relationship with the Russian government prompted closer scrutiny by Reuters staff.

“Reuters’ newsroom operates independently of Reuters Connect marketplace agreements,” CFO Matthew Keen said in a statement.

Since the invasion, Western broadcasters and tech giants have restricted access to Russian state media outlets RT and Sputnik amid concerns over the spread of disinformation.
