Review: The Volkswagen ID.5 – an ID.4 but with a curved rear body shape and a larger price tag

When Volkswagen announced it was launching an ID.5, one might have assumed it would follow a similar path to previous ID models: the hatchback ID.3 was followed by the crossover ID.4, so certainly the ID .5 be a great practical family car? But no. In one fell swoop, the ID.4 from VW received a “coupe” makeover. With a low, sleek roofline, the new ID.5 is a lumbering fusion of sports car and SUV.

When the first coupe-style SUV hit the market, stunned auto critics may have questioned the sense, but showrooms around the world resonated in customers’ footsteps, and it seemed as if automakers had once again shown that they create a demand for something we never knew we needed.
