Revolut launches instant messaging feature

Digital payments and banking company Revolut has launched an instant messaging feature in the app.

evolut Chat will now be available to customers in both the UK and the European Economic Area.

Currently, users are sending money or payment requests to those they are connected with in the app.

Now customers can also send instant messages to a contact by tapping the “Transfer” feature, which is where transactions between users normally appear.

According to the company, messages sent on Revolut are end-to-end encrypted. Customers can also opt out of the chat feature if they do not wish to be contacted through the app, with a block option also available.

“We’re excited to be able to offer instant messaging to our customers, taking us one step closer to becoming a global finance super app,” said Chief Executive Nikolay Storonsky.

“We’ve listened to our customers saying they wanted to be able to discuss and clarify payment details within the app instead of having to switch between Revolut and different messaging apps to send or receive money.”

Revolut announced last month that it would allow customers to get cash back for using the app while shopping online. App users can earn 3% cashback from retailers across Ireland.
