Richard Madeley says ‘there’s a working woman talking’ to the Labor MP
Richard Madeley has been criticized for what viewers called a “patronizing” comment to a Labor MP on Good Morning Britain today.
The 65-year-old presenter and co-host Kate Garraway was joined by Shadow Culture Secretary Lucy Powell as she discussed why the UK has not yet implemented tougher sanctions for Russia.
She suggests that sanctions could actually go further and that Labor is calling for loopholes to be closed so Russians based in the country can slip through.
When the interview was over, Richard asked her if she had been following the UN security council discussion about potential war crimes in Bucha at 5 p.m.
“If I could work around making tea for my baby and all my various childcare needs, I would,” she replied.
Richard replied: “There’s a lady at work talking! Thank you very much indeed.”

But viewers were not impressed and took to Twitter to comment.
One person tweeted: “‘There’s a working lady talking’ – don’t think @richardm56 sometimes realizes how patronizing he is. #Gmb.”
While another commented: “” There talking a working woman “nothing patronize there richard #gmb.”
Smokey third: “#gmb Madeley: ‘voice of a woman at work’ followed by a self-congratulatory smile because he didn’t even realize he was being so patient.”

It comes after Richard was criticized yesterday after asking why rape is a weapon of war in Ukraine.
Kate and Richard were joined by Chip Chapman, former British Senior Advisor to US Central Command, who offered his analysis of the situation.
After discussing the heartbreaking testimony uncovered by human rights groups, Richard asked: “Chip, we said something that was widely reported this morning that rape is used as a weapon of war. How is rape a weapon of war?”
In response, Chip said: “Well, it’s just trying to impose some kind of will on the enemy as was mentioned in the Second World War, that’s absolutely horrible. And if you’ve been hurt, moral harm. […] With those with weapons, you’ve got a lethal combination for the future. It is absolutely disgraceful and everyone needs to take note. “
However, viewers were not satisfied with Richard’s question, with one piece writing: “Richard Madeley on #gmb just asked, ‘How exactly is rape a weapon of war?” ???? !!!!!!! “
While another commented: “Madeley, ‘rape is a weapon of war?’ What advertising ***!!! #GMB.”
