GMB: Richard Madeley calls the police after his daughter’s car was stolen

Richard Madeley went on fire in front of police live on Good Morning Britain today over his daughter’s stolen car.

TV presenter and co-star Susanna Reid spoke to Sir Dave Thompson, West Midlands Police Superintendent, about the police’s new commitment to zero tolerance for racism.

However, Richard quickly brought up the broader policing situation in the country, when he revealed his daughter, Chloe Madeley, had their car stolen – and claimed the police were not investigating this.

Richard said: “There is widespread dissatisfaction with the way police respond to complaints about burglaries and car thefts. They have barely been investigated, let alone led to any charges.

“Theft was once considered a very serious crime by the police force and those who committed it say it is one of the worst things that has ever happened in the face of crime.”

He then asked if he had been robbed, as Director Constable explained that he had been robbed years ago.

“It’s one of the most invasive crimes you can go through, and it’s a crime we take very seriously,” he said.

Susanna Reid then went on to explain how only 5% of burglaries in 2021 are solved. She also said the figure was 9.4% in 2015. Richard asked Mr. Thompson about this, describing it as “terrible”.

Mr Thompson explained that the police were going through a phase where it was evolving following “police cuts”.

He defends police work, but Richard isn’t done there yet and he rages at Chief Constable about his own family’s experience after his daughter Chloe had her car stolen. .

He ignited: “And car thefts, they are hardly investigated at all and I can speak from personal experience.

Mr. Thompson explains the police’s position

“My daughter’s car was stolen from our driveway a few weeks ago and within an hour it was given to a number of criminals and a statement from the police said they would not investigated and the car could have been within 50 miles They didn’t even get the registration number to try and find it and that’s a typical story Why was car theft not investigated further ?”

Mr Thompson later appeared to defend the police response.

He said: “When a crime is reported to the police, we have to evaluate the evidence very early, whether to actually launch a specific investigation or not then is the right. Of course, when the number is posted. signing is taken, used on the ANPR systems we have, it’s not that we don’t pay attention to those means.”
