Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley was “concerned” by Homes Under the Hammer presenter Martin Roberts before he was taken to hospital last week, he revealed on Monday.
Martin joined Richard and Susanna Reid on Monday’s ITV show to detail his life-or-death scare, revealing his heart was being “strangled” by the fluid.
The presenter recently revealed that he has learned from doctors that he is suffering from cardiac tamponade, when extra fluid builds up around his heart and puts pressure on it – making it impossible for it to pump properly. way.
Martin is recovering in hospital from his recent call, from what started as chest pain that led to an emergency surgery – with him revealing he may have “hours to live”.
Speaking on GMB on Monday, Richard told him: “I have to tell you Martin, when Susanna and I talked to you while you were in Medyka about a month ago, we talked after the show and we a little worried about you.
“You drove pretty much non-stop across Europe to get there, and even though you told yourself so well, you looked exhausted. Then you came home and the health crisis was terrible. This suddenly fell out of the clear blue sky.”
“I’m aware of the signs of a heart attack, that’s all but accompanied by tingling and things. So like a hurricane, I think I’ll make it through the week,” Martin said.
“By the time I got to Tuesday, Wednesday, I felt so trashed that my wife took me to A&E, and I was basically rushing through A&E and to cut a long story short, they found that I was actually getting water or liquid around my heart, which was compressing the heart to a point where at any moment it could stop beating.
“Unlike a normal heart attack, there’s nothing you can do about it. You can’t do a full defibrillator or chest massage, because the heart itself is literally being strangled.
“So within three to four hours I was in the emergency surgery ward, had a tube in this sheath around my heart and they sucked out a liter and a half of fluid that was literally choking. I.”
Speaking of the “mortal” fluid being drawn from his ribcage, he added: “They really saved my life Richard.”
Martin originally shared the news on Twitter in a video on Thursday, captioning it: “So a shock. Thankfully, I’m here to tell the story…”
Then he said, “Well, I have to say this is not the place I expected to see Homes Under the Hammer. A little bit of good news, a little bit of bad news. I ended up being hospitalized in Bath on the same day. yesterday.
“I had some chest pain and was feeling tired, so I was brought here and it turned out I had a large amount of fluid around my heart, which really stopped my heart.
“If they don’t get out of it, which they did in an emergency surgery last night, it’s pretty serious, like, hours of c***. So here I am, still. here, thank god, thank god and angels, all that.”
Martin continued: “As a result a lot of other complicated things happened, but we’ll work those out and I’ll keep you guys updated. In the meantime, there’s a good TV show that I’ve been working on. thought I’d watch it here.”
Good Morning Britain airs at 6am weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub.
