Richie Anderson holds back tears during interview Strictly

Richie Anderson became emotional as he described his “incredible” experience on Seriously Coming to Dancing.

The 34-year-old TV and radio personality held back tears and struggled to speak out in his first interview since being dropped from the BBC series on Sunday.

Appearing in the spinoff It Takes Two, he said, “I’m so proud I’ve met some… unbelievable” before turning to his professional partner, Giovanni Pernice for support.

His emotional response had co-host Rylan Clark and the studio audience cheering.

After a second public vote, Anderson found himself up against singer and presenter Fleur East in the dance match.

They danced the samba against Hakuna Matata from the much-loved Disney movie The Lion King, but failed to win in front of the judges.

Anderson said of his performance last week: “You always know that, going into the studio on a Saturday night, it could be the last.

“Every dance I’ve done, it may not have been technically perfect, but I went out there and gave it perfect, and gave it 110%.

“And all you can do Rylan, hope is enough, and as you can see from Saturday night and Sunday night, you can never be sure. But I just had the best time.”

On being placed in the bottom two against East, Pernice said: “It’s not a pretty position, but overall, this competition, this year everyone has been great.

“Fleur is amazing, so is Vito (Coppola, her dance partner), you don’t want to be in that position no matter who it is.

“Unfortunately we had a samba, and they did a great dance. I wouldn’t want to be a judge in that position, it’s tough.”
