Ridley Scott’s style doesn’t suit some alien stars

In the aforementioned interview, Scott had this to say about his relationship with the cast:

“I’m not too popular with some actors because I like to say, ‘If it catches you, it’ll put your head down and stick it in a dark place. That’s your motivation.” I want it to be very cold in terms of, ‘Just this.’ I don’t want to know where you come from, who your mom and dad are, all that crap. I avoided all those conversations. They don’t like that. But you know, at that point, I was responsible for the movie. “

Scott did not name names, so it’s unclear which actor he was rubbing the wrong way with. Considering most of the “Alien” cast is no longer with us, Scott might not want to speak ill of the deceased. Of course, while the cast doesn’t appreciate all of his direction at this point, that doesn’t hurt the movie.

The Nostromo crew at work are caught in a bad situation. The characters are blue-collar men and women allowing the audience to easily recognize them. Aside from Ash (Ian Holm), none of them need a plot or motivation other than survival. After all, if any members of the audience were in the characters’ shoes, that’s the thing of them motivation would be, regardless of their history. In short, the “Alien” cast’s inner self isn’t rooted in where they come from, but rather in how they react to current circumstances.

Even when Scott pays attention to their biographies, the actors perform well. Scott’s focus on visuals has resulted in a stunning film with artistic design that has inspired countless others. When a manager knows exactly what they want, sometimes it’s best to just trust that they’ll get it in the end.
