Rihanna to perform at Super Bowl halftime show, NFL announces

Rihanna will perform at the next Super Bowl halftime show, the NFL has announced.

The multi-award winning singer, 34, shared a photo of herself holding an American rugby ball on Instagram and Twitter on Sunday night.

Soon after, it was reposted by her record label, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Apple Music – the show’s new partner – confirmed the news in a tweet.

Apple Music says: “ON. Rihanna will join the first Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 2, 23. “

In a statement, the NFL confirmed the pop star and businesswoman will perform at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, in February.

The show was formerly known as the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show, however, the music company confirmed on Friday that it will take on the sponsor role.

Jay-Z, founder of Roc Nation, said: “Rihanna is a talent of her generation, a woman of humble beginnings who surpassed expectations at every turn. A person born on the small island of Barbados has become one of the most prominent artists ever. Independent in business and entertainment. “

Seth Dudowsky, NFL’s head of music, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Rihanna to the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage.

“Rihanna is a generational artist who has become a cultural force throughout her career. We look forward to working with Rihanna, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to give fans another historic Halftime Show performance.”

The stars flooded Rihanna’s comment section on her Instagram page shortly after the announcement, where they celebrated the news.

Singer Lizzo replied, “Screaming” while rapper Nadia Rose wrote: “BE GOOOOOO RIRI!!!!!!” followed by an American soccer ball and a goat emoji.

The show has previously been noticed by global superstars including 50 Cent, The Weeknd, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.

Earlier in the day, America’s TMZ reported that she was in talks to cover the prestigious halftime slot, which is the Barbadian singer’s first major live performance in years.

Fans have been urging her to create new music after her Grammy Award-nominated record Anti, which was released in 2016.

In recent years, the star has focused on philanthropic endeavors, acting roles and her business, including makeup and skincare brand Fenty Beauty as well as her lingerie line, Savage X Fenty.

In 2019, Rihanna declined to perform on the 2019 Super Bowl tournament show out of solidarity with former US soccer player Colin Kaepernick.

He had left the tournament two years earlier after he began kneeling to sing the national anthem before the game to protest racial injustice in the United States.

The gesture later spread worldwide, with footballers often kneeling before matches.

Earlier this year, Rihanna gave birth to a baby with her partner, rapper ASAP Rocky.
