Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick rates Spurs win

Rio Ferdinand delivered his verdict on Ralf Rangnick’s tenure at Manchester United and talked about “the most important aspect” for his successor.

The German coach arrived at Old Trafford in December and worked until the end of the campaign, with the club hoping to confirm a permanent successor before that time.

Owner of Paris Saint-Germain Mauricio Pochettino is a clear leader to assume permanent management positions such as revealed last monthwith the Old Trafford team confident of landing their man.

That revelation was later supplemented by Mirror Football reported that the Argentinian was the preferred candidate among the players in the United dressing room.

That, however, is a far cry from Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag, another top contender for the job at Old Trafford while Spain manager Luis Enrique and Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui are outsiders.

Ferdinand explained to Mirror Football that the next candidate must have a unique skill set that not only has the qualifications of a top coach but must also be able to cope with the size of United.

“The most important aspect for anyone is that they have the guts to be able to deal with this situation,” said Ferdinand. Mirror Football .

“You have to remember the size of this club is huge and you have to embrace that, and not be scared or startled by it.

“There is a lot of work to be done in terms of changing the story and fortunes of the club.

“That requires a big character and personality to make it happen – never mind all the experience and tactical experience will be required.”

Ferdinand will not be attracted to individual names but has credited the steady job that interim manager Rangnick has done at Old Trafford.

The German player will have a two-year advisory role at the club after his tenure with the team ends this campaign and is likely to play a role in deciding which potential transfer target and make decisions about the future of the current team.

Analyzing Rangnick’s three months in the role, Ferdinand analyzed: “In terms of results, they’re generally good – but you have to remember the size of the opponent.

“He’s had a very good performance in terms of the teams he’s faced, their level and their position in the league – that’s very favorable.

“The big interest for him and what probably surprised him the most was the Jekyll and Hyde performance he saw in 90 minutes.

“I don’t think I’ve watched a game other than his first with Crystal Palace where I think there’s a real level of consistency throughout the game.

“There’s no other game when you think they’ve been really, really good for 90 minutes – a sonic performance where you think they’re really in control.

“You’re not looking for lavish performances, but one where there’s sound – that’s probably the biggest concern for him beyond individual players.

“He will look at the players and their personalities, whether they are good enough or not.

“He’s been very honest in his assessment of the games and their situation, which is refreshing.”
