Rio Ferdinand: Man United to bring back Danny Welbeck

According to RIO Ferdinand, Manchester United missed a trick by not re-signing Albion star Danny Welbeck this summer.

Brighton beat United 2-1 in Erik-ten Hag’s first league game, with Welbeck setting up Pascal Gross’ first goal.

After the game, the former United captain said he had “taken” the Albion at his old club.

The 31-year-old forward began his career at Old Trafford, scoring 29 goals in 142 games for the Red Devils from 2008-14.

He was available on a free transfer over the summer before signing a contract extension with Amex in June.

“Danny Welbeck would have started today for Man United,” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five podcast.

“Welbeck exited that tunnel, shoulders back, chest out, and you could see he thought he was terrorizing this team. That’s how he played today.

“He looked like Danny Welbeck in prime time at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid.”

Welbeck scored a crucial goal in United’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in 2013, becoming the first Englishman to score for a Premier League side at the Bernabeu since 2001.

Asked if he would have taken Welbeck to Man United this season, Ferdinand said: “With today’s performance, definitely. If you wanted a backup forward, you wouldn’t go wrong with Danny Welbeck.

“You tell him he’s going to play 15-20 games over the season, he’s filling in for Cristiano [Ronaldo]give us the legs and give us the movement.

“He can go in the back and make room for people like Bruno [Fernandes].”

Manchester United brought on Christian Eriksen as a makeshift striker on Sunday due to an injury to Anthony Martial and concerns over Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness. Rio Ferdinand: Man United to bring back Danny Welbeck
